Agriculture Tour

Wednesday August 12th, 2009

The agricultural tour will travel upriver from Fredericton into the heart of New Brunswick's potato growing region known as the "Potato Belt".

The first stop will be Jolly Farmer, a diverse wholesale agricultural operation with 10+ acres of greenhouses and 8 acres of outside growing area producing ornamentals, cuttings and plugs; biological products including compost tea, worm castings and mulch; farm-raised beef, chicken and pork; wooden cutting boards; and homemade baked goods and crafts.

See the world's longest covered bridge in Hartland, NB on the way to lunch. Lunch will be provided at POTATO WORLD, a museum dedicated to the potato and comprised of 2 acres of state of the art hands-on displays, antique machinery and a potato variety garden. The tour will hop on over to the 35-acre McCain Research Farm in Florenceville, NB. The farm was established in 1975 and is used for applied research focusing on evaluation of new genotypes, fertility, pest control and management practices critical to the production of an environmentally friendly, high yielding, top quality potato crop.

On the return trip to Fredericton, we will stop at the Covered Bridge Potato Chip Company, a brand new start-up processing facility specializing in gourmet old fashioned kettle style potato chips.

Round trip approximately 300 km.

Cost: $40 per person
